The month of August couldn’t have gotten any better! For a limited time, members of the Membership Rewards earn a 30% Amex transfer bonus to Flying Blue through August 15, 2021.
The bonus is currently offered to U.S. Membership Rewards account holders only, but who knows, it might change soon! One thing to note is that the offer isn’t an American Express promotion (so it’s not on the Amex website) but it’s from Flying Blue! And with, Flying Blue being European based it might extend the promotion to Amex cards that were issued outside of the U.S.

How Does The 30% Amex Transfer Bonus To Flying Blue Work?
All members of the Flying Blue program can avail of the 30% bonus and you can look at the actual offer on the Flying Blue website. We did mention that the offer expires on August 15th, 2021 because that’s the information being sent via email to Flying Blue members.
However, the website doesn’t show the exact expiry date and only states that it’s a time-limited offer so there’s some speculation that it might be extended.
Here’s what you need to do to get the 30% Amex transfer Bonus to Flying Blue:
- You need to have a Membership Rewards account and a Flying Blue account that have the same username.
- Link your accounts together
- enter the amounnt of Membership Rewards points that you want to transfer and click convert.
The bonus is hardcoded in the transaction, and kicks in the moment you click on that convert button. Membership Rewards and Flying Blue currently have a 1:1 transfer ratio so if you convert 5,000 Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue Miles, you’ll automatically get a total of 6,500 Flying Blue Miles in your account.

Earning Amex Membership Rewards Points
There are multiple cards that earn Membership Rewards points, which you can transfer to your Flying Blue account and earn a 30% bonus. Below are some of the most exciting Amex travel cards that come with the best welcome offers.
American Express Platinum Card
The American Express Platinum Card comes with a whopping welcome offer of 100,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $6,000 on your card within 6 months of account opening. If ever you consider transferring those Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue, you’ll get a total of 130,000 Flying Blue miles (inclusive of the 30% transfer bonus). The card has an annual of $695.
Apart from that, you can also earn more Membership Rewards points through its earning categories:
- 5x points on flights boooked directly with airlines or on American Express Travel (up to $500,000 per calendar year)
- 5x points on prepaid hotels booked on American Express Travel

American Express Gold Card
The American Express Gold Card gives cardholders a 60,000-point bonus by spending $4,000 within 6 months of account opening. If you could take advantage of the current promotion, and transfer those 60,000 Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue miles, you’ll get a total of 78,000 miles (inclusive of the 30% transfer bonus).
The card has an annual fee of $250 and it’s actually the cheapest among Amex’s lineup of premium cards such as American Express Platinum Card ($695), Business Platinum Card from American Express ($695), and Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card ($550).
But despite its price, it packs a punch when it comes to travel benefits such as:
- Earn 4X Membership Rewards(R) Points at Restaurants, plus takeout and delivery in the U.S., and earn 4X Membership Rewards(R) Points at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000 per calendar year in purchases, then 1X).
- Earn 3X Membership Rewards(R) Points on flights booked directly with airlines or on amextravel.com.

Is Transferring My Amex Points To Flying Blue Worth It?
Just like most loyalty programs, Flying Blue has adapted a dynamic award pricing so it’s not really the go-to option for most points enthusiasts unless you already have a specific redemption and price locked in. In fact, you should never convert your Amex points to Flying Blue miles or any partner airlines just because there’s a transfer bonus. you are always better off holding flexible points
Why? Points can be transferred to multiple partners but once your points are converted to miles, there’s no going back. Award prices constantly change so your miles will be subject to devaluation anytime the prices increase.
However, there are two instances where converting those Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue miles might be a good idea:
- You have upcoming travel plans, particulary transatlantic flights. You need to lock in those 30% bonus miles now and book that award flight before the promo expires.
- You want to extend the life of your Flying Blue miles. Flying Blue miles will expire if there’s no activitiy in your account for the past 24 months. Adding miles to your account, whether through flight purchases or transfers, will keep your account active and prevent your existing miles from expiring.
Apart from the above reasons, you should keep your points, since there are much better uses for them.
