If you haven’t heard yet, the Marriot Rewards Premier Plus Business card has been renamed to the Marriot Bonvoy Premier Plus Business card. The former has been removed from the market for new applicants, although you can still use it if you already have it.

The name change was a result of the merger between Marriot International, Starwood Brands, and Ritz-Carlton. The name plays around the French phrase “Bon voyage,” since Marriot Bonvoy’s entire theme is focused on travel as a form of escape and experience.

The great thing about business credit cards is they allow you to keep your personal and business expenses separate. This can help you track your finances better so you can improve your credit scores. They also have different bonus categories and benefits compared to personal credit cards.

In fact, we’ll be discussing below the primary features and perks that come with the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus. You’ll find out why having business cards is an advantage.

Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Key Features

One of the card’s highlighted features is the annual Free Night Award (valued up to 35,000 points) which you can get after your card anniversary. In addition to that, you can get a second Free Night Award every year if you get to spend $60,000 within a calendar year. You can redeem those awards at all hotels participating in the Marriot Bonvoy (TM) program.

The points earning for this card are as follows:

  • 6 points per $1 at hotels participating in the Marriot Bonvoy (TM) program
  • 4 points per $1 on gas, restaurant, shipping, internet, and phone spending
  • 2 points per $1 on other purchases

Earn Elite Status Automatically

What’s great about this card is you’ll get 15 Elite Night Credits every calendar year. The bonus credit allows you to reach Silver Status instantly, and if you spend $35,000 within a calendar year, you’ll be upgraded to Gold Elite Status.

Take note that these credits aren’t complimentary nights but they are used to determine your Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status.

Having an elite status comes with benefits that are not included in your Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus credit cards. A few examples are free Wi-Fi, late check-outs, bonus points earnings, and discounted hotel rates. The higher your status, the more benefits you’ll have.

Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Benefits

The card is perfect for travelers because it doesn’t have foreign transaction fees. It does have a $99 annual fee but it’s a typical rate for most business credit cards.

However, the annual fee seems pretty reasonable because you’ll also get additional benefits like:

Security and Global Acceptance

The credit card comes with a security chip and a “tap-to-pay” feature to make your transactions safer and faster. It’s also accepted worldwide so you can keep earning points for every purchase you make during your travels.

Trip Delay and Lost Luggage Reimbursement

For flights that are delayed for more than 12 hours, cardholders are entitled to receive a $500 credit for meals and lodging. Immediate family members will also receive $500 each as long as they’re under the same booking as the cardholder.

The same system applies to lost luggage. You and your family members can get a $3,000 insurance coverage per passenger on lost or damaged luggage.

Free Employee Cards

You’ll get free employee cards and have the ability to establish credit limits for each card. Your employees will also have the same protection benefits that you have.

This means that you can earn points on your employee’s purchases so you get to have rewards and reach Elite Status faster.

Thoughts from Points Panda

The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card is one of the best travel credit cards for business owners, particularly those who are Marriott and SPG loyalists.

However, there is another business card that works similarly to the Bonvoy Premier Plus Business which is the Marriot Bonvoy Business Card from American Express. Cardholders will earn 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy Bonus Points after spending $3,000 in purchases in your first 3 months of Card Membership.

The earning categories are also the same: 6x points at hotels participating in the Marriot Bonvoy (TM) program, 4x points for purchases made at restaurants, U.S. gas stations, wireless services, and on U.S. purchases for shipping, then 2x points on all other purchases.

If you own a business that doesn’t really require you to travel domestically or internationally, like a restaurant or a supply shop, you can opt for the Chase Ink Business Cash. It has zero annual fees and a 0% intro APR.

Now, if you still have the old version of the card, you can still use it but you can miss out on new bonus perks that come with the new lineup of Marriott Bonvoy cards such as the Marriot Bonvoy Boundless Visa Signature Credit Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Bold Credit Card. If you’re struggling to find the perfect card, you can sign up for our travel concierge and get an unlimited credit card and award booking assistance for one full year.
