If you’re thinking of using your Venture Miles anytime soon, you might want to hold off on that thought. Why? It’s because there is a Capital One transfer bonus to British Airways. through the month of August, you can receive a 33% bonus when transferring your points to British Airways. the promotion will run for the whole month of August!
This is great news to all Capital One cardholders because there are now more bonuses to be earned after Capital One also announced a 20% transfer bonus to Aeromexico this July 2021 (valid through August 8, 2021).
Key Points On The Capital One Transfer Bonus To British Airways
The Capital One 33% transfer bonus will run from August 1, 2021 to August 31, 2021. Typically, Capital One has a 2:1.5 transfer ratio to British Airways so if you factor in the 33% bonus, cardholders will now benefit from a 1:1 transfer ratio.
But is it worth it converting your Capital One Miles to British Airways Avios? First of all, you need to remember that British Airways uses a distance-based award chart. This is a good thing because you’re only charged with miles based on the distance you’ve flown – so shorter flights mean cheaper award prices.
Some airlines use a zone-based award pricing structure so whether you’re flying to Europe from Los Angeles or from New York, you’ll be charged with a fixed number of miles.
What’s also great about British Avios is that you can transfer them to Iberia Plus and Aer Lingus AerClub using the Combine My Avios feature. This allows you to have more flexibility and value when redeeming your miles.
How To Earn Capital One Miles
Credit card sign-ups and purchases on eligible categories are two main ways of earning Capital One Miles. Here are some recommended cards for you to consider.
The Capital One Spark Miles business credit card gives a welcome offer of 50,000 miles after spending $4,500 within 3 months of card membership. You get to earn 2x miles on all purchases and your miles won’t expire. The card has a $0 introductory annual fee, then an ongoing fee of $95.
The Capital One Venture Rewards comes with a welcome bonus of 60,000 miles after you meet the spending requirement of $3,000 within 3 months of card membership and a $100 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck(R). You also get to earn non-expiring 2x miles on all purchases and 5X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. The card has an annual fee of $95.
If you want a cheaper card, you can choose the Capital One VentureOne Rewards which has a $0 annual fee. However, the welcome bonus is also lesser which is 20,000 miles after spending $500 within 3 months of account opening. You get to earn 1.25x miles on all purchases and 5X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.
Does Capital One Have Other Transfer Partners?
Without the 33% British Airways transfer bonus, Capital One’s 2:1.5 transfer ratio isn’t that lucrative for people who hold multiple credit card currencies. Capital One has multiple transfer partners where you can get a 1:1 transfer ratio and better award redemptions even without the promotions.
Here are Capital One’s 19 transfer partners:
- Aeromexico Club Premier – 1:1
- Air Canada Aeroplan – 1:1
- Air France/KLM Flying Blue – 1:1
- ALL – Accor Live Limitless – 2:1

Thoughts From Points Panda
Hopefully, Capital One will extend this 1:1 transfer ratio throughout the end of 2021 or better yet, make it a permanent feature. For now, it’s just best to take advantage of this 33% transfer bonus if it does make sense to do it.
It’s not recommended to convert your Capital One Venture Miles to British Airways Avios just for the sake of getting the 33% bonus. You must only convert your Venture Miles if you have an upcoming trip in mind especially short-haul journeys. Another reason why you’d want to convert your Venture Miles to Avios is if you want to keep your Avios from expiring. Your Avios will be removed from your account if you don’t spend or acquire at least one Avios within 3 years.
Other than these two reasons, It is never a good idea to convert flexible credit card points to airline miles without an immediate use in mind. doing so exposes them to too greater risk of devaluation!
