Rewards

The simplicity of the Amex Blue Business Plus makes it stand out from other business credit cards. It doesn’t have rotating categories so you don’t have to worry about where and when to spend to earn the most points on your card.

You’ll earn 2x points on all business purchases whether it’s for office supplies, client dinners, travel expenses, and more. The 2x rate applies to the first $50,000 of your credit card purchases within a calendar year. If you meet that threshold before the year ends, you’ll only earn 1x point on your purchases.

Just take note that a flat rate card might not be the best cad for everyone. For example, if you’re a business owner who spends a lot on travel purchases, it’s best to pair the Amex Blue Business Plus with other business cards that offer higher rewards on travel purchases.

A good example would be the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card that comes with a 75k welcome bonus and earns up to 9x points on Hyatt stays and experiences. Or the Amex Business Platinum that comes with a 120k welcome bonus and earns 5x points on prepaid flights and hotels.

Since the Amex Blue Business Plus has a spending limit, it’s good to have at least two cards so you can maximize earning points.

Expanded Buying Power

The expanded buying power feature allows cardholders to spend over their credit limit for whatever reasons they have. Just remember to pay the balance of your additional fees in full before your due date arrives.

Intro Apr

This feature allows you to make purchases with ZERO interest within the first 12 months of card membership, then a variable rate, 18.49% – 26.49%, based on your creditworthiness and other factors at account opening (Terms Apply). It’s best if you take advantage of this benefit by making big purchases within your first year.

Free Employee Cards

You get up to 99 FREE employee cards which can also earn points that go straight to your account. Rather than earning points with only one card, this method makes it easier for you to rack up points a lot faster.

  • High rewards rate
  • Intro APR period
  • More than 10 transfer partners

Cons

  • 2x earnings have a spending threshold of $50,000

Who Is The Card For?

Since the Amex Blue Business Plus earns a flat 2x points per $1 and has a spending cap of $50,000, it’s perfect for small business owners who only have a few spending categories through the year.

Small business owners can also use the card to make big purchases within one year of card membership to avoid paying interest.

Alternative Cards

The Amex Blue Business Plus’s main drawback is its $50,000 spending cap. There are other cards that comes with the same benefits but don’t have limitations on spending.

Capital One Spark Miles for Business

The Capital One Spark Miles for Business comes with a 50K welcome bonus after spending $4,500 within three months of card membership. It also earns 2x miles on everything but it does not have a spending threshold. However, it does have an annual fee of $95 but it’s waived for the first year.

Chase Ink Business Cash Credit Card

If you’re okay with rotating categories, the Chase Ink Business Cash is for you! The card has a 5% and 2% earning rate but each category has a spending limit of $25,000. You’ll also get $750 cash upon signing up if you meet the spending threshold of $7,500 within the first three months of getting the card.

Bottom line

The Amex Blue Business Plus is perfect for small-time business owners who don’t spend more than 50k each year. You’re better off with the Capital One Sparks Miles for Business even though it has an annual fee or you can opt for a premium business credit card such as the Amex Business Platinum.
