How do you earn flying blue miles?
Earning Flying Blue miles is easy. You can earn miles by using travel credit cards like Capital One, American Express, etc. When flying with an airline partner, you will earn miles. All you have to do is provide your Flying Blue number when making your reservation.
There are other ways, like hotel bookings, car rentals, etc., from which you can earn miles. Also, members can earn miles toward free flights by purchasing at the Flying Blue store. You may rack up miles when shopping at any of their stores.
Transfer Partners
You don’t only earn miles when you fly with Flying Blue. Your miles will increase when you book a hotel, rent a car, or shop with several partners. Almost all major credit card points transfer to Flying Blue.
So you have many different options to earn points through credit card spending and signup bonuses and transfer them at a 1:1 ratio, and sometimes even better than a 1:1 ratio when an offer or promotion is in place.
Transfer partners | Transfer ratio |
---|---|
Capital One Miles | 1:1 |
American Express Membership Rewards | 1:1 |
Citi ThankYou Rewards | 1:1 |
Chase Ultimate Rewards | 1:1 |
Marriott Rewards | 3:1 |
Flying Blue Miles Pooling
Flying Blue allows you to pool your miles as a family of up to eight members, with a maximum of two adults and six children. Anyone over 18 can have an account and become the family leader. The leader maintains the transfer and can transfer miles from other accounts.
It is useful when you are short on miles on your account while booking a flight. You can use pooling to transfer miles from a family member, or you can book a cash fare for your entire family, and they will all earn points on their individual accounts. You can combine all those points into one account for future redemption.
Elite Status for Flying Blue Members
The four status tiers offered by Flying Blue are Explorer, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Gold and Platinum status grants free access to lounges, first-come, first-served boarding, free luggage, and discounted or free Economy Comfort seats on KLM flights.
The metric for achieving this elite status is “XP(experience points).” You can only earn them by flying with Air France, KLM, or one of their SkyTeam partners or by using certain credit cards that give bonus XP.
To keep your status, you must have the required number of XP (Explorer starts on day 1, where Silver=100 XP, Gold=180 XP, and Platinum=300 XP) in that status.
Bottom line
This month’s promo rewards include a selection of long-haul and short-haul main cabin award sales, though flights to and from North America have been increased this month. If you want to save money on economy class tickets, there are some great options in this month’s Promo Rewards.
Flying Blue is a transfer partner of all the major transferable points programs, so you can use points from hotel bookings, car rentals, shopping, and other activities to boost your mileage balance.
