Getting a great deal to fly on Aeromexico metal is relatively straightforward. The company has many partnerships with multiple airlines worldwide, giving you the option to use a wide range of points, both airline and other, to book and fly on Aeromexico.

As a SkyTeam member, booking Aeromexico flights with a SkyTeam partner seems an obvious choice. Although as with everything in the airline industry, not all partners were created equal, and there is better value to be had with some over others.

The leading big players across the SkyTeam alliance are Delta, Air France/KLM, Korean Air, all with a well-developed loyalty program and route network. Anyone familiar with Delta and Air France/KLM Flying Blue will be familiar with the fact that the airlines have spent the last few years stripping out every bit of value from their loyalty programs. That being said, both airlines still seem to offer some value when booking Aeromexico metal.

With no official award chart, pricing Delta awards is tricky. While hobbyists compile many unofficial award charts, they are not definitive. Your best bet is to have a good search around the Delta website and see what pops up. Bear in mind that Delta regularly changes its award pricing.

Flying from Mexico to South America, there is excellent value to be had, with flights to Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo both coming in at 77,500 Skymiles one way.

If you are looking to head to Europe, you can also find some good value from Mexico City to Madrid, Spain. Awards in economy will set you back 37,500 miles one way, plus $63.17 in taxes and fees.

Since Flying Blue did away with award charts in favor of dynamic pricing things, have gotten a little more complicated in terms of pinning down an excellent value award. Fortunately, Flying Blue provides an award price estimator which gives you the starting cost for its awards, including partner awards on Aeromexico metal. Browsing the estimator, there is some good value to South America with Mexico to Sao Paulo in Premier Class, setting you back 72,000 miles one way.

Heading east, there is also some excellent value to Europe, with a flight from Mexico to Madrid, Spain setting you back 72,000 points in premier class one way.

For flights between the US and Mexico, there is some value to be had, with the route between New York, JFK, and Mexico setting you back 14,500 miles in economy or 36,000 miles in premier class one way.

If you are already in Mexico, there is some value to be had on domestic flights as well. With a one-way award from Mexico to Cancun setting you back 12,00 miles in economy or 28,000 miles in premier class.

One thing to remember with Flying Blue is that it is one of the few airlines that its transfer partner of every significant point currency out there. From Chase and Amex Membership Rewards to Marriott and Brex, if you have a points balance in a major currency, you can probably transfer it to Flying Blue and use it to secure an award booking.

A brief look at Korean’s award chart reveals some excellent value. Korean Classes Mexico as located in North America, so you are looking for pricing between North America and other destinations.

Aeromexico flies to two European destinations Paris and Madrid. Round trip awards from Mexico to either destination booked with Korean Sky pass miles will set you back 80,000 miles round trip in business class.

That is stunning value and is well worth a closer look. There is also some great value to be had if you are looking to head across the pacific. A round-trip flight to Tokyo in business class will set you back 140,000 Korean Miles.

If you are few miles short of a redemption with Korean, you still have some options even though Korean and Chase terminated their relationship a while back. You can still transfer Marriott Bonvoy points over to Korean SKYPASS. Transfers occur at the standard ratio of 3:1, and the inbuilt bonus when transferring 60,000 Marriott points applies as usual.

Unfortunately, transfer times are incredibly unreliable, with data points from as little as 1 business day to several weeks. Bear this in mind if you are looking to make a last-minute transfer for an award booking. You should always have a solid plan A and Plan B when transferring points from Marriott to Korean SKYPASS.

Aeromexico Club Premier has a well-developed relationship with Avianca LifeMiles. With both airlines operating deep codeshare relationships. You can earn and redeem your LifeMiles for flights on Aeromexico.

With a bit of planning redeeming, Avianca LifeMiles for flights on Aeromexico can be outstanding value and present a better deal than using Club Premier points for the booking. This is especially true if you are transferring points from a credit card partner for the award.

The value is best illustrated when booking Aeromexico flights from Mexico to the South of South America zone.  A round-trip flight from Mexico to Brazil/Argentina or another country in the region will set you back 150,000 Club Premier points in business class. If you are transferring Membership Rewards points at a ratio of 1:1.6 for the award, that works out at 93,750 Membership Rewards Points.

Suppose you opt to book via Avianca instead. In that case, a Round trip award on Aeromexico metal from Mexico to Brazil/Argentina or another country in the region will set you back 60,000 LifeMiles in business class. Even if you transfer American Express Membership Rewards to Avianca Life Miles at the inferior ratio of 1:1. The Award will still only set you back a total of 60,000 Membership Rewards points.

This is a massive saving of 36% in Membership Rewards and illustrates how you can leverage your points for outstanding value with proper planning and why the obvious awards may not be the best use of your points.

When searching online for awards, sometimes things can be even better, and LifeMiles might just through a bargain your way. Mexico to Buenos Aires in Business class with Aeromexico comes in at the stunning price of 52,500 LifeMiles plus $61.37 in taxes and fees.

It is worth keeping in mind that this is not the only great option out there, and with Flights between North America and South of south America also costing you 60,000 Points round trip. Remember that Areomexioco uses its new Boeing 787-9 Dremaliners on routes to the South of South America, and the aircraft has a fantastic business class experience.

One point to remember with Avianca is that aside from transferring American Express Membership Rewards Points, you can also transfer Captial One Miles to LifeMiles. Effective April 20, 2021, the transfer ratio has been radically improved and, and Capital One miles now transfer to LifeMiles at a ratio of 1:1.

GOL, the Brazilian carriers, also has a well-developed relationship with Aeromexico, and you can earn and burn your points across both programs. Gol Operates a dynamic pricing model for all its awards. This means the trip is like dot the cash price of the ticket, and it is difficult to find some outstanding value awards.

Generally speaking, if you have GOL miles, you can keep them for awards on GOL or use them for cash and miles booking on destination further afield.

Needless to say, one of the easiest ways to book Aeromexico flights is using Aeromexico Club Premier points. However, if you are short a few miles, there are plenty of options.

Fortunately, Aeromexico has a well-developed relationship with 5 of the major points currencies out there. You can transfer the following points to Club Premier Points.

American Express Membership Rewards

Arguably its most established and most lucrative transfer partner, American Express, has a long-standing relationship with Aeromexico. Membership Rewards points earned from spending on your American Express Gold Card, or the American Express Platinum Card can be used to top up your Club Premier Points balance.

Transfers are completed at a ratio of 1:1.6, and typically they occur instantaneously. Although this was not the case in the past, and transfers would often take several days. There is a 1,000 Membership Reward point minimum transfer limit.

Marriott Bonvoy Points

Whether you earn your points from Marriot stays or from spending on your Marriott Bonvoy Bold Credit Card or  Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Visa Signature Credit Card, you can leverage your Marriott Bonvoy Points to get closer to your next Club Premier award fare.  Transfers from Marriott to Aeromexico are not as quick or at an attractive a ratio as transfers from Membership Rewards. With typical transfer times being a few days and points transferring at a ratio of 3:1.

If you are planning on transferring a substantial number of Marriott points, then it is well worth remembering that Marriott has an inbuilt transfer bonus when you transfer 60,000 points. Marriott awards you a 5,000-point bonus when you transfer 60,000 points. Transferring 60,000 Marriott points would yield a total of 25,000 Club Premier points for an effective transfer ratio of 3:1.25.

Capital One Miles

One of the most recent additions to the points and miles world Capital One made big headlines when it announced its transfer partners a few years back. Aeromexico was one of the initial participants in the program, which allows miles earned from spending on your  Capital One Spark Miles for Business or your Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card to be used towards your next Aeromexico award. Like American express Capital, One transfers are instantaneous.

Historically Capital One Miles transferred to Aeromexcio at a ratio of 2:1.5. However, this has markedly improved. Effective April 20, 2021, Capital One Miles improved its transfer ratio with a host of partners. From that date, Capital One miles transfer to Aeromexico Club Premier at a ratio of 1:1.

Citi ThankYou

Citi ThankYou points transfer to Aeromexico at a ratio of 1:1. When you consider the other ratios on offer and an Aeromexico transfer strategy, this is one of the worst possible uses of your Citi ThankYou points and represents poor value for your points. Transfers are instantaneous but are only worth doing as a last resort if you desperately need a few thousand points for an excellent award redemption.

Brex

Brex is the latest flexible points currency that you can transfer to Aeromexico Club Premier. Transfers typically take up to 1 business day and occur at a ratio of 1:1. Again making them like Citi ThankYou one of the least value for money transfers to Club Premier.

Before you begin your search for an Aeromexico, remember the airline has a low and high season pricing model. To get the best value out of your award, your best option is to keep your search limited to low-season awards.

A quick look at the Aeromexico Club premier Award chart shows that there is some excellent value to be had at the right time of year.

Domestic flights around Mexico will set you back 28,000 miles round trip, which is the equivalent to 8,750 American Express membership rewards each way! Below you can see an award from Mexico to Cancun that will set you back 14,000 miles one way.

If you are heading south, then flights to South of South America are a bargain for 150,000 Club Premier points or 93,750 Membership Rewards points round trip in Business class. One-way from Mexico to Buenos Aires comes in at 75,000 in business class.

Due to the way Club Premier structures its award chart. There is also good value to be had when you don’t use Mexico as your origin or final destination. Transiting through Mexico en-route to South America from Canada or the US can represent excellent value. Club Azul / Hot Sale & Cash

Sometimes cash king as it goes, and your best option for booking an Aeromexico flight is to just pay for it. Keep in mind that the airline regularly holds deep discount sales, which then presents an excellent opportunity to get a great deal and boost your mileage balance to boot.

Keep an eye out for the Club Azul or Hot sale. The sale is held in partnership with the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO) and offers some very deep discounts. It is normal to see premium fares on bestselling routes discounted by up to 30% during the event.

Typically, the sale runs for a period of 8 days, which gives you plenty of time to search, plan, and secure that great deal. The next hot sale at the time of writing will run from May 23 through May 31, 2021. So make a note in your calendar and remember to check back to see what’s on offer.

Sometimes “cash is king” as the saying goes. Quite often, on shorter trips, if you are looking for a premium cabin, then the best value is paying cash, looking back at the above example for a flight from MEX-CUN. It would cost you 28,000 points plus ~$45 in taxes and fees in premier class.

If you are flexible with your dates, you can find the same flight for as little as $162.2.

if you are smart with your points, you can get better value for them on long-haul routes compared to the cash price of the ticket. In a situation like this, It may be worth your while paying for the ticket in cash since it will only set you back around $117 more than booking an award. Bear in mind if you purchase your ticket during a sale or at a different time, you may be able to find it even cheaper.

Historically, Aeromexico Club Premier did not have the best reputation; however, this has changed a lot in recent years. Aeromexico flights can now be a rewarding experience, especially long haul in a premium cabin after the airline acquired B787s. While it is not as well known as some of the bigger legacy carriers out there, the airline has transformed in the last few years and now is well worth a closer look!
