When it comes to airport lounges, no other credit card issuers have topped Amex’s Centurion lounges. This has been the case for many years but this 2022, new players are coming to town. Chase will have its own Chase Sapphire lounges and Capital One will also have its own Capital One airport lounges.

The first lounge is located in Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport and it has been operating since November 2021. Meanwhile, the other two lounges in Denver and Washington Dulles are scheduled to open to the public this 2022.

The Capital lounges will have premium amenities such as shower suites, wellness rooms, restaurant dining, and spacious relaxation areas. And from what we know, Capital One Venture X cardholders will have unlimited access to these lounges.

Here’s what you need to know about Capital One’s one airport lounges.

Capital One Lounge Locations

The Capital One airport lounges will be located in three major airports across the U.S. so make sure you stop by one of them whenever you’re traveling.

  • Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport (DFW)– The airport lounge is located in Terminal D near Gate 22 and it’s open daily from 6 AM – 9 PM. See the map for more details.
  • Washington Dulles Airport (IAD): This Capital One lounge isn’t open to the public yet but it’s scheduled to open this 2022. It will be located at the Main Terminal after you pass through the TSA PreCheck lane.
  • Denver International Airport (DEN): The lounge is also schedule to open this 2022 and it will be located at Concourse A on the Mezzanine level.

Who Can Have Capital One Lounge Access?

Capital One isn’t as restricting as other co-branded credit card lounges. You can get Capital One lounge access in two easy ways – getting a Capital one credit card or paying with cash.

Get Lounge Access With Co-branded Cards

Cardholders of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card will have unlimited access to all Capital One Airport lounges as long as their accounts are active. They can also bring two guests with them for free but they need to enter the lounges at the same time; additional guests have discounted prices of $45 each.

Additionally, the Venture X gives new cardholders a welcome bonus of 75,000 miles after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months of account opening, plus a complimentary Priority Pass membership that gives you access to more than 1,300 lounges worldwide and exclusive deals at partner restaurants.

A primary cardholder can also add up to 4 authorized users for free and they will also have the same lounge benefits. However, if the primary holder and two authorized users are entering the lounge together, the authorized users will be then considered as guests and will have free access.

Aside from the Venture X, cardholders of the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Spark Miles for Business will also have access but only with two free visits per year and without guest privileges. The price for succeeding visits and additional guests will cost $45 each.

Capital lounges are currently not listed on other lounge membership programs so might not get access even if you have a Priority Pass or a Lounge Buddy membership.

Get Lounge Access By Paying Cash

All travelers can get access to Capital lounges by paying $65 per visit. The regular price is more expensive so it’s better to get a Capital One credit card instead if you visit these lounges often.

What about kids? Cardholders and those who are paying with cash can bring kids who are under two years old for free.

Capital One Lounge Restrictions

Aside from the eligibility requirements, Capital One lounges only allow travelers who have a boarding pass for a departing flight within the same day. Additionally, travelers can only access the lounges within three hours of departure.

These restrictions are pretty common for other lounge networks since it helps avoid overcrowding. However, it can be subject to change depending on the lounge location and the number of guests during your visit.

What To Expect From Capital One Lounges

The Denver and Washington airport lounges aren’t open at the moment so we don’t have any information on what perks and amenities they actually offer. But to give you an idea, here’s what the Capital One lounge at Dallas/Forth Worth currently offers:

  • Complimentary high-speed wifi
  • Grab-and-go snack bar
  • Working areas w/ charging stations
  • Luggage lockers
  • Restaurant Dining
  • Coffee bar
  • Full wine bar
  • Spacious relaxation areas
  • Cycling and yoga rooms
  • Nursing room
  • Multi-faith prayer room
  • Shower suites

Take note that amenities such as cycling rooms, multi-faith prayer rooms, shower suites, and yoga rooms may vary by location. Prices are also subject to change for paying guests.

Capital One Is Launching Its New ‘Capital One Landings’ Lounges

Capital One is planning to launch a new set of airport lounges in New York (LGA) and Washington (DCA), which are called the “Capital One Landings” lounges.

The main difference between the regular lounges in Denver (DEN), Dallas Forth Worth (DFW), and Washington Dulles (IAD) and the Capital One Landings is that the latter will partner up with the world-renowned José Andrés Group to offer a more curated dining experience.

There aren’t any complete details yet but here’s what we know so far:

  • New York (LGA):
    • The lounge covers 10,700 square feet and is located located in Terminal B.
    • The lounge will feature indoor and outdoor dining options and a beautiful view of the New York City skyline.

  • Washington (DCA):
    • The lounge covers 5,483 square feet and is located in Terminal 2 after security at the intersection of National Hall and Concourse D

As of this writing, there’s no exact date or year on when these two lounges will open.

Bottomline

The unveiling of the DFW Capital One airport lounge in November 2021 was great news for frequent flyers. For the longest time, Amexhas dominated the lounge category but now it’s good to see that Capital One is stepping up its game.

In fact, Capital One lounges are better in terms of accessiblity since Amex’s Centurion Lounges are only available to cardholders of the American Express Platinum Card and American Express Business Platinum Card. Centurion Lounges doesn’t allow paying guests.

Seeing credit card issuers compete with one another can result to two things – lower prices and better services in the future.
