The Blue Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express is one of the four cards that belong to the Amex-Delta co-branded credit card portfolio. It doesn’t have a lot of luxurious features compared to other travel credit cards, but it does deserve a spot on your wallet.

It’s practically perfect for beginners who don’t want to incur annual fees but still want to earn miles whenever they wish to fly with Delta Airlines.

Amex Blue Delta SkyMiles Key Features

The card’s welcome bonus for new cardholders is 10,000 miles after spending $500 within three months of getting the card.

Here are its rewards and benefits:

  • Earn 2X Miles per dollar at restaurants worldwide, plus takeout and delivery in the U.S.
  • Earn 2X Miles per dollar spent on Delta purchases
  • Earn 1X Mile on all other eligible purchases
  • Pay with Miles: Get up to $50 off the cost of your flight for every 5,000 miles you redeem with Pay with Miles when you book on
  • Get a 20% discount in the form of a statement credit after you use your Card on eligible Delta in-flight purchases of food, beverages, and audio headsets
  • Zero annual fees and transaction fees (Terms Apply)

Additional Amex Blue Delta SkyMiles Benefits

The Amex Blue Delta Skymiles doesn’t have premium travel perks such as free access to Delta SkyClubs by the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card from American Express or the free checked bag and priority boarding by the Gold Delta Skymiles Credit Card from American Express.

However, this doesn’t mean that the card isn’t valuable because it comes with great benefits that you can use for your travels, such as:

Car rental insurance – You’re entitled to damage or theft insurance as long as you use your credit card to pay for car rentals.

Exclusive Entertainment Access – Cardholders will get priority access to ticket presales and other card member-only events.

Warranty Extensions – Cardholders can get an extended warranty of up to one year from partner merchants.

Payment Flexibility – You can use your miles to pay for flights that you want. You’ll also have the flexibility of carrying your balances with interest to the next due date.

Purchase Protection – Eligible purchases made within 90 days have accidental damage or theft insurance.

Free ShopRunner Membership – Active cardholders get a complimentary ShopRunner membership. They are entitled to free two-day shipping from over 100 online merchants.

Global Assist® – Cardholders who fly more than 100 miles can get 24/7 assistance. This covers situations like missing luggage, passport referrals, or medical emergencies – provided that they shoulder the expenses.

What Points Panda Recommends

The Amex Blue Delta SkyMiles doesn’t have a lot of travel perks. Make sure to redeem the bonus miles within the first three months of signing up.

You won’t be able to maximize the card’s potential if you’re not a Delta loyalist. Don’t even bother getting this if you use different airlines. You need to spend on eligible Delta purchases and partner restaurants to earn 2x miles per dollar.

The card is perfect for Delta flyers who want a credit card with zero annual fees and can earn decent rewards.

However, if you want to have a lucrative rewards program, free checked bag, priority boarding, and VIP access to SkyClubs, you might want to consider getting the other Amex-Delta credit cards. If you’re still having a hard time deciding which card to get, you can sign up for our travel concierge and get unlimited credit card and award booking assistance for one year.

Earn a $200 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Plus, earn 5% cashback on gas station purchases on up to $6,000 spent in the first year.
